"Light was Everywhere", poems by Richard Wehrman, brings together for the first time poetry previously shared only with a small number of individuals working, as he has, on paths of awakening, insight, and inner illumination. These poems always take as their touchstone the vibrant revealed earth, the rebirth of soul and spirit, and the continuous revelations of presence and awareness. A support for those who travel any difficult road, this small volume offers a confirmation of the challenges and rewards as we move towards spirit and open heart awareness. "Light was Everywhere" points us toward the beauty and support we are continually given by the world, and the growing recognition that what the Earth herself is, we are.

Richard Wehrman lives in rural Upstate New York. An artist, designer, and poet, his most recent illustrated books are The Banyan Deer and Endless Path—Awakening Within the Buddhist Imagination: Jataka Tales, Zen Practice, and Daily Life, both by author and storyteller Rafe Martin.

Back Cover Quotes:

“Richard Wehrman’s poems have often touched me, made me pause and smile and take a deeper breath of life. His words are an offering for the soul’s nourishment.”

—Oriah Mountain Dreamer, author of The Invitation

“Richard Wehrman is a renaissance man; illustrator, thinker, contemplative, poet, lover of his lover.... The prose poem “The One Who Never Was” has a koan-like quality that will turn many a mind inside out, just as needed. There’s the poem recalling loss of poor life in a fire and years later, its being covered over by gentrified landscape, “A Night Train Passes, Pacific, Missouri”. There’s the “Song of Attachment,” that made me smile at the fragility of us all. I think you will smile at its irony also. There is the poem, “The Servant” a mobius strip kind of poem about the lifelong service of ego to self. There’s a beauty that ought be read at all reunions, “You’ve Seen It,” about what remains no matter how old one becomes. To my spirit, any book that speaks of these things, soulfully, is a good book. This book, is one such.”

—Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Ph.D., author of audiobook series, The Dangerous Old Woman: Myths and Stories of the Wise Woman Archetype

“Here at the School of Spiritual Psychology, we all call Richard Wehrman the “Poet Laureate of the Heart”. This volume, holding the voices of his soul over many years, proves we are right!”

—Robert Sardello, author of Silence and Love and the Soul

“Light Was Everywhere is full of blunt honesty, laugh out-loud humor, and subtle beauty. It is fine and spiritual work, with a touch of magic. In it Han Shan comes down from Cold Mountain to warm his hands at Rumi’s fire. It’s a wonderful book, a book to savor on the journey.”

—Rafe Martin, author of Endless Path: Awakening Within the Buddhist Imagination:
Jataka Tales, Zen Practice, and Daily Life
